This half‐day morning Seminar
is being organised by the Ministry of Finance, the Economy and
Investment’s COMMERCE DEPARTMENT
in cooperation with Malta’s Enforcement Authorities, SME Representative
Bodies and the EU‐China IPR Helpdesk.
The Commerce Department of the Ministry for Finance, the Economy, and
Investment is currently representing Malta in an EU wide Transnational Project
entitled IP Awareness and Enforcement Modular Based Actions (IPeuropAware) which
commenced in November 2007 and will last until the end of 2010. The entire
Project consists of some 15 Work Packages grouped under 3 Modules and Malta is
participating in all 7 of the following Work Packages (WPs) found under Module
1: Local Level SMEs Services for IPR Awareness and Enforcement:-
WP7: Setting up a User-Friendly Website for IPR Support for European SMEs
WP8: Setting up Local Helpdesks for IPR Support for European SMEs
WP9: Planning Local Actions for Awareness & Enforcement Services
WP10: IPR Enforcement Support Services
WP11: Delivering Awareness & Enforcement Actions Directly to SMEs
WP12: Delivering Awareness & Enforcement Actions for SMEs Support Services
Under Work Package 11, the Project consortium has committed to organising 12
seminars on the topic “Counterfeiting and Enforcement of IP-rights” throughout
Europe, with a morning Seminar in Malta to be held on Thursday 15th October.
The overall objectives of such events are to make local SMEs aware of the
threats and risks of counterfeiting and to inform about existing possibilities
to prevent counterfeiting problems as well as how to face them when they occur.
The seminar’s content will seek to:
- - invite local experts in the field of enforcement (experts from customs,
police, other services working in counterfeiting and enforcement, lawyers
specialised in the field of IP)
- - provide presentations by SME representatives having encountered and/or
solved counterfeiting problems, having infringed third party IP-rights
- - make contributions from international experts in the field of
IP-enforcement and counterfeiting
- - hold round table discussions
