This  half‐day  morning  Seminar  is  being  organised  by  the  Ministry  of  Finance,  the  Economy  and  Investment’s  COMMERCE  DEPARTMENT  in  cooperation  with  Malta’s  Enforcement  Authorities,  SME  Representative  Bodies  and  the  EU‐China  IPR  Helpdesk.

The Commerce Department of the Ministry for Finance, the Economy, and Investment is currently representing Malta in an EU wide Transnational Project entitled IP Awareness and Enforcement Modular Based Actions (IPeuropAware) which commenced in November 2007 and will last until the end of 2010. The entire Project consists of some 15 Work Packages grouped under 3 Modules and Malta is participating in all 7 of the following Work Packages (WPs) found under Module 1: Local Level SMEs Services for IPR Awareness and Enforcement:-

WP7: Setting up a User-Friendly Website for IPR Support for European SMEs

WP8: Setting up Local Helpdesks for IPR Support for European SMEs

WP9: Planning Local Actions for Awareness & Enforcement Services

WP10: IPR Enforcement Support Services

WP11: Delivering Awareness & Enforcement Actions Directly to SMEs

WP12: Delivering Awareness & Enforcement Actions for SMEs Support Services

Under Work Package 11, the Project consortium has committed to organising 12 seminars on the topic “Counterfeiting and Enforcement of IP-rights” throughout Europe, with a morning Seminar in Malta to be held on Thursday 15th October.

The overall objectives of such events are to make local SMEs aware of the threats and risks of counterfeiting and to inform about existing possibilities to prevent counterfeiting problems as well as how to face them when they occur.

The seminar’s content will seek to:

  • - invite local experts in the field of enforcement (experts from customs, police, other services working in counterfeiting and enforcement, lawyers specialised in the field of IP)
  • - provide presentations by SME representatives having encountered and/or solved counterfeiting problems, having infringed third party IP-rights
  • - make contributions from international experts in the field of IP-enforcement and counterfeiting
  • - hold round table discussions

If you are an SME do not miss this invitation to attend the 2009 complimentary EU Seminar on why Enforcement of your Intellectual Property Rights is so important and how this may be done through the current structures available in Malta and the EU.

KINDLY FILL IN THE REGISTRATION FORM BELOW AND RETURN TO THE COMMERCE DEPARTMENT BY THE 10th OCTOBER 2009.
