Parliament approves Bill to amend the Copyright Act (415) allowing Malta’s accession to the WIPO Copyright Treaty 1996 and the WIPO Performance and Phonograms Treaty 1996

On the 13th May, Parliament completed its third and final reading of the Bill to amend the Copyright Act (415) providing for some minor updates to Malta’s Copyright legislation in order that Malta may accede to the WIPO treaties in caption.

Malta will now join its fellow EU partners in making a joint deposition of the instruments of accession by the Member States of the WCT and WPPT, as they are more commonly referred to, introducing further harmonisation on a global level in the area of Copyright and Neighbouring Rights particularly within the framework of the digital age.
